It has been exactly a year since I stepped foot in Gardens CrossFit – first ever CrossFit box in my life. I have to say that I was nervous and the thought of going to a CrossFit box was intimidating, so I had to get a friend to go with me in the beginning; however, the coaches and people quickly made me feel like part of them and welcomed me to their community.
Prior to Gardens CrossFit, I thought I was doing great in terms of staying fit and healthy because I used to run, cycle, play basketball and “go to the gym”. I was totally wrong. When I started Foundations and the consequent WOD classes, I quickly realized that I am not even close to fit and have major mobility issues. I was not able to do a single strict pull-up, handstand, overhead squat, back/front squat properly and have trouble raising my arms overhead. It’s a totally different ball game.
Now, a year after, still not perfect and some struggles, but I have far better mobility and posture than before. I am able to perform those functional movements with much more ease and comfort. I feel stronger and healthier. I have also gained weight, from 148 to 160lbs, which was one of the main reasons I joined CrossFit!. I have lifted more weight and achieved PRs that I didn’t think was possible before I started. Finally, I accomplished my first RX WOD at the beginning of this year and couldn’t believe it. 🙂
Joining Gardens CrossFit was one of the best decisions I made last year. I could not have made the progress and accomplishments on my own. Thank you to everyone that has given me workout tips, encouraged me and spotted me so I don’t kill myself…..LOL.… Especially thanks to Miki, Lee and Chad for coaching and spending your precious time to show me the world of CrossFit. The journey has just begun. 170 lbs, here I come!
